Modern Bullion Coins
2009 $20 One-Ounce Gold Ultra High Relief Twenty Dollar, First Strike, Moy Signature, MS70 Prooflike PCGS. Based on the extremely rare Judd-1917 patterns by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, the 2009 Ultra High Relief twenty dollar bullion coins were struck on a 27 mm diameter planchet with twice the thickness of a normal U.S. double eagle. Each coin contains one ounce of .9999 fine gold. The issue was conceived by Mint Director Edmund Moy and was enthusiastically received by collectors at the time of issue. Struck at the West Point Mint, approximately 115,000 pieces were produced and collector-demand remains high today.
This spectacular MS70 First Strike specimen bears Moy's signature on the holder. The technically perfect yellow-gold surfaces show strong prooflike reflectivity throughout and the design elements are fully struck, having received two blows from the coin press at 65 metric tons of pressure. PCGS has certified only a handful of First Strike specimens with Moy's signature in this ultimate grade, with prooflike surfaces. Population: 9 in 70 Prooflike, (5/17).
