1939 5C Reverse of 1938 PR68 NGC. The porch steps of Monticello are wavy on the Reverse of 1938, while they are perfectly flat on the Reverse of 1940. The "Wavy Steps" reverse die was left over from 1938. This incredible Superb Gem is destined for a top level collection. The surfaces are fully mirrored and brilliant with no evidence of toning. A hint of contrast is visible. Census: 12 in 68 (2 in 68 ★), 0 finer (5/17).
