Bust Half Dollars
1828 50C Square Base 2, Small 8s, Large Letters, O-113, R.3, MS64 PCGS. Struck from a late die state, with the stars drawn to the edge. The diagnostics for Overton-113 are tricky. The main pick-up point is gule 6 of the vertical shield stripes, which shows divergent lines at the top -- a characteristic shared by the O-114 and O-123 varieties that have the same reverse. The present O-113 Is a Choice Uncirculated example that is tied for second in the Condition Census for the variety. Lustrous reddish-gold toning covers both sides, while orange and blue accents add eye appeal. The strike is sharp overall, with only minor incompleteness in the area of Liberty's clasp.
