Bust Half Dollars
1833 50C O-110a, R.2, MS64 PCGS. A curved line passes through the top of 50 through the C to confirm the Overton variety. The later die state shows a crack through the lower leaves and claws. Shimmering luster emanates from beneath a layer of antique patina. Strike detail is better at the centers than the peripheries on each side of this near-Gem half. Despite the variety being relatively available in lesser grades, it is anything but plentiful in high Mint State grades. Steve Herrman's Spring, 2017 Condition Census for the late die state shows one other MS64 at the top, and none finer (6/17).
