Seated Half Dollars
1845 50C WB-Unlisted, Die Pair 1, R.3, MS62 PCGS. The 8 and 4 in the date are connected by an unfinished area on the obverse die and repunched slightly north, representative of this previously unlisted variety in the 1993 Wiley, Bugert Seated half reference. Untoned and brilliant with thickly frosted surfaces, the present lustrous example shows only minor grazes and small marks. The strike is usually sharp on 1845 halves, and this coin is no exception. Scarce in Mint State. Population (all 1845 varieties): 4 in 62, 9 finer (6/17).
