Seated Half Dollars
1849 50C WB-101, Die Pair 14, R.3, MS63 PCGS. Several peripheral die cracks on each side and a distinctive, triangular area of raised metal beneath the eagle's right (facing) wing confirm the variety, which is one of 15 different 1849 Philadelphia Mint die marriages identified in the 2016 Volume V Register of Seated Half Varieties by Bill Bugert. Attractive aquamarine and russet-gray toning over lustrous, semiprooflike surfaces of this Select Uncirculated example combine with a sharp strike for strong eye appeal. Population (all varieties combined): 12 in 63, 30 finer (6/17).
