This proof 2008-W one-ounce Gold Buffalo showcases a degree of cameo contrast that was never produced on the original Buffalo nickel, from which the design is borrowed. The obverse design is true to James Earle Fraser's original save for the addition of the West Point mintmark near the date. The reverse incorporates the motto IN GOD WE TRUST, which was absent from the original nickel design, and the notation 1OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD on the mound below the denomination.
