Proof Seated Dollars
1859 $1 PR62 PCGS. OC-P1, R.3. By 1859, proof silver dollars were being marketed directly to collectors, rather than struck on rare occasions for special requests. The 1859 proof Seated dollar comes from a mintage of 800 pieces, which makes it collectible today in most grades. This lower-end example is sharp and mostly brilliant with good mirroring. Scattered hairlines indicate the grade. The PCGS holder has numerous, uniformly spaced whitish spots on the reverse side caused by some sort of partial damage to the plastic, which show up in the online photos -- the spots are not on the coin.
