Proof Trade Dollars
1882 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. While the absolute number of survivors from this proof-only issue is relatively high when compared to other Trade dollar proofs, its scarcity is far greater than expected due to pressure from date collectors who have no circulation strike alternative to fill the 1882 slot in their Trade dollar set. This example is extremely attractive for the near-Gem Cameo grade assigned. Flashy, deep mirrors engulf the frosted devices with glassy reflectivity. Blue and lilac hues merge with orange-gold accents. The strike is sharp on both sides, with only a few wayward, delicate lines and a pair of small, cloudy spots to report. The eye appeal is impressive. Population: 53 in 64 (5 in 64+) Cameo, 21 finer. CAC: 15 in 64, 13 finer (5/17).
Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 10/2015), lot 4756.
