Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles
1925 $20 MS66 PCGS. Double eagles were the primary coin for foreign trade in the 1920s, and while many were exported a large number of the exported pieces returned to U.S. soil -- and into the hands of collectors -- decades later. It is doubtful the present Premium Gem ever left careful preservation here in the United States. It displays a remarkably sharp strike that covers the lustrous and frosted, medium-gold surfaces. Only minuscule abrasions are visible with a lens. PCGS has certified a mere seven numerically finer examples (5/17).
