California Fractional Gold
1853 50C Peacock Reverse 50 Cents, BG-302, Low R.4, MS62 NGC. Rays surrounding the eagle's head resemble peacock feathers, giving this variety its unusual name. These pieces, made by Frontier, Deviercy & Co. during the gold rush period, are often found in circulated grades as they actually saw use in commerce. Mint State pieces are in great demand. This example has greenish-gold surfaces and satin luster with excellent eye appeal. Census: 5 in 62, 9 finer (5/17).
