George V 5 Cents 1921 VF35 PCGS, Ottawa mint, KM22a. A better grade for this rare type, with lightly toned surfaces and touches of cerulean color at the rims. Wear across the central motifs aligns with the grade and a light dappling of tone in the recessed fields adds another level of interest. The surviving mintage of this issue is thought to be under 500 pieces, with few examples in this technical quality having been offered in the marketplace in recent past. The decision to change the 5 cent from the current silver metal to nickel had a significant impact on this date, with the only other year from this series--1920--held as reserve, sending nearly the whole of the 1921 mintage to the melting pot. As such, many collections are without this key issue, making this an exciting opportunity to fill that void.
