Indian Cents
1909-S 1C MS65 Red PCGS. CAC. The San Francisco Mint struck 309,000 Indian cents in 1909 before the new Lincoln cent dies arrived from Philadelphia. Gem-quality survivors of this type are significantly scarcer than are those of the more popular Lincoln variant. This example displays lustrous orange-gold surfaces, with no major abrasions and only a few faint carbon specks. Some minor weakness on the feather tips is diagnostic of this issue, and the strike is otherwise crisp. PCGS has awarded the Red color designation to only 27 finer representatives (6/17).
