Colonials
1766 1/2 P Pitt Halfpenny, Betts-519, W-8350, R.3, AU50 PCGS. The Pitt halfpennies and the rare Pitt farthings are popular with colonial collectors, and they also cross over to the field of American Historical Medals with their listing in the Betts reference on that classification where they are listed among medals of the period from the Peace of Paris to the American Revolution.
The "Great Commoner" William Pitt successfully negotiated the repeal of the Stamp Act in Parliament, to the relief of New England merchants. This moderately circulated medal is mostly steel-gray with glimpses of golden-brown in design crevices. Smooth save for minor granularity on the right field near the portrait. Listed on page 52 of the 2018 Guide Book.
