1795 PENNY Washington Liberty & Security Penny, ASYLUM Edge, Baker-32, W-11085, Musante GW-47, Low R.7, AU55 PCGS. Neil Musante estimates that 10 to 12 examples of this variety are known, along with a single Plain Edge piece that is unconfirmed. While all of the Liberty & Security halfpennies are dated 1795, the majority of the larger diameter pennies are undated, and most of those that do have dates are low grade examples. The present piece is only the second example that we have handled since the beginning of our Permanent Auction Archives in 1993, and the other example was Fine Details, Environmental Damage PCGS. This amazing Choice AU piece ranks as one of the finest known, and it is one of only two pieces that PCGS has certified. This piece has gorgeous surfaces that show only trivial marks that are virtually invisible without magnification. Both sides are lovely olive and chestnut-brown with delightful pale blue overtones. While the strike is incomplete, only the slightest trace of high-point wear is evident. This is an extremely important opportunity for an advanced collector. Listed on page 86 of the 2018 Guide Book. Population: 1 in 55, 1 finer (6/17).
