(1659) 6PENCE Lord Baltimore Sixpence, Small Bust, Hodder 2-C, W-1060, R.5, XF45 NGC. This is the only obtainable variety of the Lord Baltimore Sixpence with about 45 to 50 examples known today, nearly half that quantity being discovered in a small hoard and offered for sale in London in 2002. Many of those examples were unevenly struck, but the present piece has a bold strike and retains considerable luster on its light gray surfaces. Splashes of pale gold toning are evident on the obverse. This example was struck on a defective planchet with a V-shaped planchet crack at 5:30 when the obverse is viewed. Listed on page 42 of the 2018 Guide Book. Census: 4 in 45, 4 finer (6/17).
