Three Cent Silver
1868 3CS MS64 PCGS. CAC. The faint remnant of a recut 1 appears immediately above the primary 1 in the date on this Choice 1868 three cent silver piece. This issue is rare in all Mint State grades but is occasionally seen as fine as MS64. Finer representatives are exceedingly rare. The 1868's mintage of only 3,500 coins ensures the scarcity of high-grade examples.
The present coin is in a minority of CAC-approved Mint State representatives and it boasts fully prooflike fields and appreciable cameo contrast. No toning is present and the strike is full. A lack of obvious contact marks makes it high-end for the grade, as the CAC green label suggests. Population: 14 in 64, 8 finer. CAC: 4 in 64, 5 finer (6/17).
