Barber Quarters
1913-S 25C MS66 PCGS. Boasting a mintage of only 40,000 pieces, the 1913-S is one of the three big keys in the Barber quarter series. The date is most frequently seen in low circulation grades, and is rare in anything finer than Fine 15. We have not offered a Mint State example of any sort in more than two years. Most recently, an MS66 PCGS coin in lot 3923 of our June 2015 Long Beach Signature sale realized $35,250. The current Premium Gem is equal on a technical basis and arguably finer visually. Above-average sharpness appears on all design elements, and the frosty surfaces are devoid of abrasions. Champagne toning on each side yields tiny flecks of russet under a loupe. A truly high-end example of this Barber quarter rarity. Population: 12 in 66 (2 in 66+), 5 finer (6/17).
