Proof Morgan Dollars
1900 $1 PR68 Cameo NGC. Ex: Chappell Collection. No proof 1900 Morgan dollar has been certified numerically finer than PR68, and this Star-designated Cameo is tied for the finest known. It is also a grade point finer than the best Cameo at PCGS. Delicate peach-gold toning on each side fades to near brilliance at the centers and cedes to tinges of blue and violet at the extreme outer peripheries. The coin is fully struck and showcases stark field-device contrast, as is a hallmark of this final 19th century proof Morgan. We offered the other PR68 ★ Cameo in our June 2010 Long Beach Signature sale, where it realized $32,200. The present coin is worthy of at least a comparable bid. Census: 7 in 68 Cameo (2 in 68 ★), 0 finer (6/17).
