Proof Morgan Dollars
1904 $1 PR67 Cameo NGC. Ex: Chappell Collection. The 1904 is the most challenging pre-1921 proof Morgan to acquire in a Cameo grade. No Ultra Cameos are known, and the entire NGC and PCGS Cameo population amounts to only seven coins. Of these, the present piece is the sole finest (6/17). Flashy mirroring in the fields is amplified by a lack of toning, which helps the satiny devices to delicately contrast with the mirrors. There is a touch of softness on the hair above Liberty's ear, and the eagle's breast feathers are indistinct -- the 1904 proof is well-known for its typically below-average strike, which adds to the challenge of acquiring an above-average piece, such as is offered here. We have never before handled a Cameo in this high of a numeric grade.
