Early Half Eagles
1802/1 $5 BD-8, R.4, AU53 PCGS. CAC. Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b with clash marks visible behind the lower curls on the obverse, but without evidence of clash marks at the date. The reverse has a delicate die crack slanting down from the top of the U through the N and to the I in UNITED. Reverse clash marks are also evident on this example. Housed in a green-label PCGS holder, this light yellow-gold example has light high-point wear with nearly full satin luster and delicate orange overtones on each side. A nicely centered impression, this piece shows slight design weakness at the centers.
