1799 $10 Large Obverse Stars, BD-10, R.3, AU55 PCGS. Bass-Dannreuther Die State a/a. Void of cracks or clash marks. Only two Large Obverse Stars varieties are known for the 1799 ten dollar. A single obverse was used to strike both. The collectible BD-10 shows the leaf touching the I in AMERICA, distinguishing it from the very rare BD-9 variant. This is one of the most frequently seen early eagle die marriages, and a good choice for collectors looking for an 18th century gold type coin. The central devices are strongly rendered with just a trace of friction. Only star 12 and ITED are noticeable soft. Centering is good, and light marks are peppered evenly over light yellow-gold surfaces. Housed in an old green label holder.
