Proof Liberty Double Eagles
1906 $20 PR64 NGC. CAC. The 1906 proof double eagle claims a mintage of 94 pieces. Breen speculated 50 to 60 specimens could be traced, and this date is widely regarded as the best issue for those looking for a Liberty Head twenty in proof format. It is probably the most available issue in the series, though still quite rare in the absolute sense. This near-Gem has undesignated cameo contrast and the classic orange-peel texture collectors expect of a proof of this vintage. Aside from a couple of minor contact marks the surfaces are inarguably clean for the grade. Encapsulated in a former generation holder. Census: 11 in 64, 3 finer. CAC: 1 in 64, 2 finer (6/17).
