Morgan Dollars
1879-S $1 Reverse of 1878 MS64 PCGS. The 1879-S Morgan dollar with Reverse of 1878 is attributed by a parallel top arrow feather and flat eagle's breast. It is scarcer than its Reverse of 1879 counterpart. The Reverse of 1878 can be located in near-Gem with patience, but higher-grade examples become much more challenging. In fact, PCGS reports only 60 submissions finer than MS64, and NGC shows 19 finer (6/17). The brilliant surfaces of the present coin exhibit well-struck devices, including strong detail in the hair over Liberty's ear. A light graze or two barely precludes Gem classification.
