Morgan Dollars
1879-S $1 MS68 PCGS. At the time the 1879-S dollars were struck, the San Francisco Mint was the "darling of the United States Mint system" according to Q. David Bowers. The officer's quarters were lavishly appointed and served as an ideal place to host visiting government officials from the East. Great pride was taken in the production of the coins in the "Granite Lady," which is apparent from the fully struck, thickly frosted silver dollars seen of this date. This particular coin is brilliant throughout and heavily frosted with pinpoint striking definition. The cheek of Liberty is smooth and the surfaces overall are as close to technical perfection as possible.
