Commemorative Gold
1915-S $2 1/2 Panama-Pacific Quarter Eagle MS64 PCGS. Ex: Stecher Collection. This is the quarter eagle representative from a series of silver and gold coins struck in conjunction with the 1915 exposition held in San Francisco to celebrate the opening of the Panama Canal. Central peach-gold color is framed by wisps of apricot along the margins. The motifs are strongly defined. Minor obverse luster grazes preclude a higher grade. Purchased in the 1930s at face value by Karl Stecher Sr. from coins turned in by the public as per President Roosevelt's March 9, 1933 directive.
Ex: Stecher Collection / ANA National Money Show Signature (Heritage, 3/2007), lot 1504.
