1999-W $10 Quarter-Ounce Gold Eagle, Unfinished Proof Dies, FS-401, MS70 PCGS. The tenth- and quarter-ounce Gold Eagles struck from unfinished proof dies represent the only true die varieties among all Gold Eagles from 1986 to present and are required for completion of a set. Although it is estimated that 10,000 quarter-ounce coins were inadvertently struck from these proof dies, far fewer are reported at the grading services. This semireflective yellow-gold example features a complete impression. Absolutely flawless in every respect. Population: 11 in 70 (6/17).
