Bust Half Dollars
1813 50C 50 C Over UNI, O-101, R.2, AU55 PCGS. This curious variety can be attributed to the failing eyesight of Mint Engraver John Reich, who initially placed the first three letters of UNITED far too low on the die. He then effaced the errant wording, and punched the denomination in its proper place. Remnants of the underlying letters are still visible. Mixed violet, blue-green, and antique-gold surfaces display remaining luster within the star recesses. Well-struck for the type with minimal friction.
