Bust Half Dollars
1823 50C O-109, High R.5, XF40 PCGS. A very scarce variety, seemingly more challenging than its high R.5 rating. This is a wholesome XF example, with iridescent colors beneath olive-gray and blue overtones. O-109 represents the final use of the obverse die, now boldly cracked across the bust and date, then upward where it meets another die crack that spans the cap. The reverse die was resurrected from a previous use in 1822. Minor surface marks are grade-consistent and solid definition remains throughout. A spur off the outer bottom curve of 3 confirms the obverse die, while the first A in AMERICA has complete serifs. A in STATES and the second A in AMERICA lack the inner-right serif.
