Bust Half Dollars
1826 50C O-106, R.3, MS62 PCGS. A hair curl extends into the base of L in LIBERTY, and RI of AMERICA are solidly joined at the base. The left base of R is recut to form a double serif. Struck from an intermediate state of the dies, with a crack at the top of STATES OF A but no crack at RICA to the arrowheads that confirms the late die state. Steel-gray toning with dappled blue accents deepens at the borders. This R.3 variety is scarce this nice. The smooth surfaces are sharply struck, attractive, and nearly unblemished.
