Seated Half Dollars
1846-O 50C Medium Date, WB-101, Die Pair 10, R.3, MS63+ NGC. CAC. The 1846-O is a challenging issue when Uncirculated, although it is not always recognized as such. This Medium Date example sits solidly in the Condition Census for the issue and it is most likely the finest of its variety. The fields are partially prooflike beneath a medley of colors including blue, forest-green, orange, and tan-gold. The coin is sharply struck from an early stage of the dies, as shown by the presence of a small die gouge at the joint of the right wing and neck, visible only on early die state specimens. Census (all Medium Date varieties): 5 in 63 (2 in 63+), 1 finer. CAC: 1 in 63, 3 finer (6/17).
