Seated Half Dollars
1846-O 50C Tall Date, WB-106, Die Pair 24, R.5, AU50 NGC. When the cataloger once shared an 1846-O half dollar with an old-time coin dealer, asking if it was a Tall Date, that dealer replied by asking "How much is it?" That was the day that the diagnostics were committed to memory. The lower right serif and the crossbar are clearly separated on the Tall Date, and they lightly touch on the Medium Date. This example has minor grade-consistent marks on its light silver surfaces with peripheral blue, gold, and iridescent toning.
