Proof Seated Half Dollars
1883 50C PR65 Cameo NGC. Seated Liberty half dollars, whether in circulation-strike or proof format, were struck expressly to satisfy collectors throughout the 1880s. The coins were unneeded in day-to-day commerce. Only 1,039 proofs accompanied a mintage of 8,000 business strikes in 1883. The former often stand in for the latter given their relative availabilities in high grades. This Gem Cameo specimen has dusky violet, cobalt-blue, and cream-gray patina with flashy, reflective fields beneath the toning. Void of singular contact marks. Census: 22 in 65 Cameo (1 in 65+, 1 in 65★), 18 finer (6/17).
