Early Dollars
1795 $1 Draped Bust, Off-Center, B-14, BB-51, R.2, XF40 NGC. Bowers Die State I. If the awkward centering of Liberty's portrait was not enough to identify this 1795 Draped Bust dollar as being struck the BB-51 die pair, then the placement of the B in LIBERTY over the curl should give it away. Light violet and peach-gold patina flanks the outer areas, ceding to mainly untoned centers. The cheek, bust tip, and breast feathers display moderate merging, but this XF dollar is otherwise boldly defined. The fields are flashy and minimally abraded, heightening the appeal. Tiny file marks are noted around the obverse border and vertically across the portrait.
