Early Dollars
1798 $1 Large Eagle, Knob 9, 5 Vertical Lines, 10 Arrows, B-6, BB-96, R.3, AU50 PCGS. Bowers Die State IV. Ex: Thaler. Almond-gold and steel-blue shades encompass this well-detailed Heraldic Eagle dollar. Luster is prevalent in the hair, wings, and legends. Marks are generally few, though we note a single slender abrasion at the reverse center. Bowers explains that this is a "medium scarcity" variety for the date. He estimates six to 12 coins survive in all AU grades, plus three to five in Mint State.
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2013), lot 4504.
