Proof Trade Dollars
1880 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. CAC. The Philadelphia Mint began full scale production of Morgan silver dollars in 1878, and the same year eliminated business strike Trade dollar production, only striking proofs from that year through 1885. In 1880 production was halted after 1,987 proofs were coined, the largest proof mintage of the entire series. This issue is an important type candidate for that reason. Both sides of this near-Gem are fully brilliant and untoned, save for a trace of gold just inside the borders. The fields are fully mirrored and frame the lustrous devices to create splendid cameo contrast. Population: 67 in 64 (6 in 64+) Cameo, 51 finer (6/17).
