Liberty Quarter Eagles
1860-C $2 1/2 AU58 NGC. Variety 1. A bright canary-gold example with substantial luminous luster, this near-Mint 1860-C quarter eagle is nicely struck, particularly for a Charlotte Mint product, and the few minor obverse marks are fully appropriate for the grade. Of the 7,469 pieces were struck, Doug Winter estimates that only 155 to 205 examples survive in all grades. Pieces in similar quality to this example are rare. As the final issue in the Charlotte quarter eagle series, the 1860-C is in high demand at all levels. Census: 23 in 58, 11 finer (6/17).
Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 3/2007), lot 1738.
