Liberty Half Eagles
1853-D $5 XF40 PCGS. Gold CAC. Variety 34-Y. The 1853-D is the most frequently encountered D-mint five dollar, and as such is the issue most often used for type purposes. That being said, this has to be the ultimate XF Dahlonega half eagle because of the Gold CAC endorsement. The surfaces are obviously untampered and original with even reddish patina over each side. Close examination with a loupe reveals a few small handling marks over each side, but nothing of singular note. Even wear over the high points.
