1861-C $5 -- Cleaned -- PCGS Genuine. AU Details. Variety 1. The final half eagle issue from the Charlotte Mint was struck to the extent of only 6,879 pieces. A few Uncirculated examples are known but command prices so high that they are out of reach for the average collector. About Uncirculated coins are usually the finest obtainable. This piece is sharply detailed but a light cleaning prevents a numeric grade. The olive-gold surfaces are lightly abraded on the reverse and mostly smooth on the obverse save for a couple of small ticks near star 4 and Liberty's nose.
