Liberty Half Eagles
1874 $5 AU58 NGC. The prooflike quality of this nearly Uncirculated half eagle should come as little surprising given the 1874's minuscule mintage of 3,400 pieces. We believe probably no more than 100 examples survive, possibly as few as 80. The design is strong and little friction, if any, is apparent, but myriad abrasions are scattered across each side. Census: 18 in 58, 3 finer (6/17).
