Liberty Half Eagles
1874-CC $5 XF45 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1-C. The 7 is directly over a dentil, and the C's in the mintmark are even. Four years into coining operations, the Carson City Mint struck 21,198 half eagles. This is one of the more collectible issues from the period, yet only 200 examples are believed extant. Originality is a rare attribute among them, on display throughout this partly lustrous five dollar gold piece. Design is strong, save for the curls above Liberty's ear. Small abrasions are minimal. Population: 20 in 45, 46 finer. CAC: 5 in 45, 17 finer (6/17).
