Indian Half Eagles
1916-S $5 MS64 PCGS. The San Francisco Mint coined 240,000 half eagles in 1916, while the Denver and Philadelphia Mints were focused exclusively on minor denominations. The half eagle coinage was but a small part of the gold output of San Francisco that year, which was mostly double eagles. The 1916-S Indian five is today a sought-after issue and one that is rare above MS64. This near-Gem offers satiny rose-gold luster and well-defined motifs. There are no major abrasions, only some light lines in the fields that limit the grade. PCGS reports 15 finer coins, mostly in MS65 (6/17).
