Liberty Double Eagles
1870-S $20 AU58 PCGS Secure. Ex: Collection Champagne Lanson. The Lanson winery is known for its champagne, but in numismatic circles it is known for the hoard of 497 double eagles discovered on its vineyard in February 2012 by a worker who was rewarded generously for his find. This example derives from that WWII cache. Blended green and rose accents adorn this still-lustrous, nearly Uncirculated San Francisco double eagle -- one of almost 1 million coins struck. Well-impressed, particularly on the reverse, with scattered abrasions.
