HONDURAS. Provisional 2 Reales, (18)23-TL. PCGS VF-20 Secure Holder.
Struck under the rule of Emperor Iturbide of Mexico. Tegucigalpa mint, KM-unlisted. (but cf. Jara, C: Central American Provisional and Provincial Mints 1822-1825" for a proper attribution). Wholesome and attractive for the assigned grade, with limited, even wear and no distracting flaws. A most exciting discovery specimen of this extremely rare and important type with the "T(egucigalpa) L(ibre) initials, of which less than 5 examples are now confirmed. The little known and understood "T. L" group of issues represent the transitional link between the comparatively well-known (yet of similar rarity) circular issues of the 2 Reales denomination listed in the SCWC as KM6, KM11, KM12 and KM14 and the imitation cobs of the PM-PY type dated 1823-1824 (listed in the SCWC as KM15 for the 2 Reales denomination). Fittingly, these "T. L" coins exist on both circular planchets (as the former group) or irregular ones (as the latter). As noted, both sub-varieties are EXTREMELY RARE, and a key to a proper understanding of the challenging series of provisional coinage struck in Tegucigalpa in 1823-1824. PCGS VF-20 Secure Holder.

Estimate: $2000.00- $3000.00
