RUSSIA. 10 Ruble, 1771-CNB. Catherine II (the Great) (1762-96). NGC AU-53.
C-79a; Fr-129a; Bit-24. Mintage of only 31,500 pieces and the second smallest mintage for the type. During Catherine II's reign she had success against the Ottoman Empire where Peter I "The Great" had failed with the Russo-Turkish War (1768-74). She gained massive amounts of territory and made Russia the dominant power in south-eastern Europe. Well struck and lustrous with attractive orange tone in the peripheries. RARE in this sate of preservation and as such highly sought after. NGC AU-53.
