QATAR & DUBAI. Qatar & Dubai Currency Board. 1 to 100 Riyals, ND (ca. 1960). P-1cts to 6cts. Color Trial Specimens. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ & Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ.
B101at to B106at. 6 pieces in lot. Specimen serial numbers, overprints and punch cancels. A highlight lot in the sale and a set that will certainly excite collectors. These 1960's series notes from Qatar and Dubai are some of the most sought after collectible banknotes available as the circulation period and issuance was both short and limited. Only the One Riyal notes of the series are generally available in high grade while all other denominations are scarce to rare when offered in pristine grades. Specimen notes of any kind are also rare for this ornate series and this set is the first color trial group we have offered. With denominations over 10 all being nearly impossible in Uncirculated condition these high end Gem notes will give a lucky collector all the appeal that could be had from the series.

The One Riyal is viewed in a stunning red color as opposed to the issued green inks and grades PMG 66EPQ. The Five Riyal note is printed in a dark brown color as opposed to purple and grades a lofty PMG Superb Gem 67EPQ. the 10 Riyal note is found with the purple ink that was reserved for the issued Five Riyal notes and also grades a remarkable PMG Superb Gem Uncirculated 67EPQ. The highly important 25 Riyals is printed here in a deep green color as opposed to the blue hue found on issued notes, grading PMG 66EPQ. The increasing size 50 Riyal note which is another key piece to this set is printed in a dark brown in favor of the bright red ultimately selected for issuance and grades PMG 66EPQ. Finally the 100 Riyal note is presented in a purple color in favor of olive, grading PMG 66EPQ as well.

This set is most certainly one of the finest groups of collectible banknotes we have offered and will be an instant "trophy," item in any collection it enters. The PMG population report does not reflect the Color Trial Specimens for all denominations, but the totals for specimen notes for any note presented here are roughly one or two pieces with the current examples being among the finest they have graded. Any collector can appreciate the rarity of this offering, but just one will be able to take this prize home after the hammer falls, bid accordingly. PMG Gem Uncirculated 66 EPQ & Superb Gem Uncirculated 67 EPQ.

Estimate: $50000.00- $60000.00
