SWITZERLAND. 300th Anniversary of the Reformation in Geneva Electrotype Bronze Medal, 1835.
112 mm. Whiting-682. By Antoine Bovy. Fur cape and capped portrait of the reformer John Calvin (1509-1564) to the left; Reverse: Gothic pulpit, with inscriptions: "IL TEINT FERME / COME S'IL EVST VEV CELVY / QUI EST INVISIBLE" divided by the pillars. Too large to have been struck by conventional methods at the time, this handsome piece was made by electrotyping two thin copper shells, filling them with lead, and fitting the two shells together. Regarded as the finest of John Calvin medals. Rich mahogany surfaces overall, with some surface distractions in the obverse fields - otherwise NEARLY MINT STATE.

Estimate: $150.00- $250.00
