LESBOS, Mytilene. Circa 454-428/7 BC. EL Hekte – Sixth Stater (10mm, 2.50 g, 3h). Diademed head of Silenos right / Two ram heads butting each other; uncertain symbol above; all in incuse square. Bodenstedt Em. 37 var. (symbol); HGC 6, 963 var. (same); CNG E-376, lot 164 corr. (symbol; same dies); CNG E-367, lot 206 corr. (symbol; same dies). VF. Very rare variety, perhaps the third known.

A palmette is known to occur on many dies above the rams' heads, but this symbol, which is unfortunately unclear, is not known. It does not appear to be a simple die break over a palmette, as was indicated in the prior CNG e-sales with this variety.
