Thrace, Kypsela(?) Æ12. Circa 400 BC. Head of Hermes left, wearing close petasos ornamented with beads / Two-handled cup, legend around. Cf. BMC 1; cf. SNG Copenhagen 532. 1.79g, 12mm, 6h.
Very Fine. Of excellent style. Pale green patina.
Of similar style to those pieces attributed to Kypsela, the very rectangular two-handled cup seen here was also utilised as a reverse type by the Odrysian ruler Kotys I though with a female head on the obverse. Unclear as the legend on the reverse of the present piece is, it must undoubtedly be of the same region and period.
