CHINA. Pattern "Mausoleum" Dollar, Year 16 (1927). PCGS MS-61 Secure Holder.
L&M-85; K-609; Wenchao-pg. 555#898 (rarity three stars); Sun-III-4-01; WS-0130. VERY RARE. Designed by Richard Placht, Austrian medalist and engraver for the Vienna mint. Although attractive and elegant in its design, the pattern was destined to be met with disapproval. While stylistically correct, the "Sun Yat-sen Mausoleum" is lacking several design elements. (Construction of the site was still under way as this pattern was being designed). Since the engraver never actually saw the site and was only supplied with drawings, elements were omitted including the mausoleum steps leading to its face. It is also noted that the engraving of Dr. Sun Yat-sen was met with disapproval from authorities in China, as it bore only partial resemblance to his actual likeness. Mintage of only 480 pieces. Good strike with light mottled tone. PCGS MS-61 Secure Holder.

Estimate: $20000.00- $25000.00
